The giants until todayAnd of this form we are approached the present times, but in year 1780 an important fact takes
place in the kingdom of Spain (and therefore also in all overseas territories): One prohibits the
parade of the figures and the interpretation of dances within the procession of the Corpus, since "
it followed them to the town of too festive form and principal" relaxed of the purpose. Said of another form: Those elements that the church made his to foment the participation of
the town in the procession of the Corpus, now happened to be undesirable and, with a stroke of the
pen, it was eliminated to them of " fiesta".
This meant the aim for many giants that finished put in a corner and eaten by the rats, or
directly victims of bonfires.
Therefore localities that told on to a strong presence and protagonism of the figures in the
procession, as are the case of Seville lost, them for always. Nevertheless in other places they did
not make case
of the prohibition or they located meters in front of the parade, and so one was able to be
able to maintain the tradition alive.
Since we have said this prohibition was " for all the territories of kingdom", consequently in
the territories of America also it was applied, tolerating, for example, the disappearance of the
giants of the Cathedral of City of Mexico.
But saving this incident the giants continued their way, evolving, taking diverse forms of
manifestation and enriching, as a whole, the important page but of the popular and traditional
culture in the world. |
