The world of the giants

They are anywhere in the world located giant and/or bigheaded in a total of 90 countries or territories.

At present its surroundings reach very diverse social contexts, being able to find them, for example, in festive participation or others of exclusively religious type.

The origin of the giants is not unique, since they are born to each other in isolate places different from the world but, very possibly, in all of them related to initiatory ritual ceremonies or.

One of these ancestral ceremonies - in the tribes of the Makishi (Zambia) - was declared Patrimony of the Humanity by UNESCO in the same year that " Patum" of Berga.

Or there was presence of giant figures, for example, in Classic Rome, the prairies of the American Indians of century XIV or in the Africa of century XV.

Before the foundation, in 2001, of our Organization within the giant puppets surroundings of our country as soon as twenty-five nations knew themselves, many of European them, with giants.

Until arriving at the present number of 90 countries, in the five continents, it has been a work of investigation and carried out documentation by the International Circle of Friends of Giant Puppets.

The phenomenon of the giants that with as much intensity is lived in our country is not exclusive of this one, nor only circumscribed to Europe.

There are enough places in the world in which the popular feeling is equal of fort, even Concentrations of Giants by which they are as much or more populated than the realised ones in Spain.

Nevertheless, the majority ignorance of this reality prevents that we realize that these figures are the manifestation of the Popular and Traditional Culture more extended by the world and can be valued in its right dimension.

In Spain seven independent Organizations of Giant Groups exist and with a differentiated good reach (the Balearic Islands, Aragon, City of Barcelona, Province of Tarragona, Community of Aragon, Community of Catalonia and the International). The Circle is the unique one of them whom, according to its Statutes, a dimension has the International.

This projection is reflected in the Agreements of Collaboration that to date our Organization has signed with Giant Puppets Groupings (with its characteristic differentials) of: The Southern Regions of Catalonia, the Community of Aragon, the Balearic Islands, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Chile, Puerto Rico, the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Also the Circle has established a network of Delegates who project the Organization in: Canary Islands, Community of Madrid, Community of Galicia, Valencià Country, Germany, Portugal, France, Ecuador, Brazil, the United States, Uruguay, Colombia, Argentina.
