The corpus and the giantsWith this situation in the world of the giants in Europe it is arrived at year 1311, when the
Pope Clemente V restores the celebration of Corpus Christi, like element to fight the ascent of
other moved away ideas of the traditional Christian faith.
And although it is not explained as the processional celebration must be developed, this one
happens to be in all the orb a parade of religious elements - many of them over triumphal cars,
adapting them nevertheless to the interests of the celebration.
Of this form the giants, tarasca, bigheaded and the all type of fabularius get up themselves
to the Celebration that over the years is adding new originating elements, especially, of the
representations of the unions.
This, with the addition of popular dances, like the dance of swords, causes that this
celebration has a great interest for the social classes more losses, since in her they find
reflected many of the elements pertaining to his customs and traditions.
Therefore, like example, in 1430 already it is written on the presence of giants in Ninove
(Belgium), in Bergen-op-Zoom lens (Holland) in 1447, in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1450, in Dijon
(France) year 1454 and in Leicester (England) the 1461. In the kingdom of Spain they are documented
in 1500 in Alcala de Henares, in Girona year 1521, Seville the 1525, Toledo in 1560,….
And as it shows of its presence we also mentioned that in century XV they are documented in
Kunzelsau (Germany), throughout century XVI in Bozen (Italy), Zerbst (Poland) and Sterzin
(Switzerland). |
