CELEBRATION AND PAIN IN MAJORCA

Sunday 14 of December the First Encounter of Giants in Lluc took place (Island of Majorca - Balears - Spain), on the occasion of 125º anniversary of the Coronation of the Mare de Déu de Lluc, act to which the International Circle of Friends of the Giant Puppes was invited to participate by its brothers and homonymous friendly of the Agrupació de Colles Geganteres de les Illes Balears.

With this objective a total of 16 people moved to the island of Majorca, along with our giants: The Chapetona and the Diablo, giants of Costa Rica, and the Enano Cabezón, bigheaded of Nicaragua. Within the expedition five members of their Board of directors traveled, to even more put record of the narrow existing bonds between both Organizations.

The expedition arrived at Palma de Mallorca the Saturday in the morning, moving next to the Catalan House of Majorca, the other organizing Organization of the celebration. Next the transfer took place towards the Monastery of Lluc, where we were distributed in different lodgings and we passed the rest of the day enters rest and meals.

The following day, 14 of December, it was the great day of the celebration, but the time it did not want to collaborate, luckily an ample shed allowed to be placing all the giant puppets of the great number of groups come from many localities of the island, eager to participate in the same. To them, besides the outstanding presence of the Giants of the Agrupació de Colles Geganteres de les Illes Balears and the figures of the International Circle of Friends of the Giant Puppets, the Giants of the Insular Consell, those of the Agrupació de Colles Geganteres de Catalunya added themselves, with their bigheaded ones, and the Giants of Piera. We must review the great surprise that represented for the assistants the presence of our giants and bigheaded, and of a very special way our musicians, whom they interpreted without stopping music of groupss of giant puppets of Costa Rica. ......... But the sad news, that it shook to the world of the giants in the Islands, arrived on the following day, Monday, when Jose Manuel, a young carrying of the group of Capdepera passed away buried under the ruins of the hotel that collapsed in Cala Ratjada.
